"Audio quality went down tremendously." 2008-01-18
By R. Gordon (SLC, UT)
I think the cable is defective. Prior to using this cable my audio quality was as expected. With this new cable my video quality is wonderful, but I have serious audio issues. The normal audio for every game now has a hum and distortion that makes the xbox unplayable with this cable. I have wonderful audio out of all other components attached to my receiver.

"Great for ps2 or xbox, but not both at once" 2007-12-16
By C. K. Wallace
This cable has worked well for my PS2 on both games and DVDs. It works well for the Xbox too. The cable shielding is sufficient, RCA connectors are solid. Component video connectivity is a big plus.

However, if both the Xbox and PS2 are connected simultaniously, you won't be able to get analog audio through the cables. That is unless you disconnect one of the two systems, which can be a hassle depending on your audio/video setup.

"Versatile and cheap, yets lacks 5.1 optical for XBOX" 2006-06-06
By Chron4no (Example: Florida, MO USA)
A huge oversight, probably done to reduce cost is the lack of Digital Optical out for the XBOX on these cables. Unlike the PS2 which has its own output for the Digital Optical Cable to support DTS and true Dolby Digital, the XBOX does not. The MS official HDAV pack provides that output and even a few 3rd party knock offs have it as well. Obviously a flaw in the console design of the XBOX 1, this is only exacerbated by the fact that the MS official HDAV pack is now a rare item that fetches huge prices on ebay for such a trivial function.

Now that the XBOX1 is being phased out I doubt Madcatz will release an update. Basically these are fine for PS2 consoles (I own 3 sets) but useless for the XBOX if you have a 5.1 surround system.

"Not enough component jacks or money? Get this." 2005-10-14
By Lt. Dick Vickers (Missouri)
I have a Sony HD TV and bought this cable for the unbelievable price of less than 10 dollars. And the video is splendid. I did side-by-side comparisons with it and the standard cable and the difference was terrific. I have a Gamecube with the Nintendo-made component cable, and I compare the video output of that to the Madcatz cable and there is no difference. This applies to both PS2 and Xbox, as the cable works with both. ONE COMPLAINT: You can't have both systems connected at the same time, or else the audio will not work when you play PS2 games. The Xbox is unaffected by this, but this means that whenever I want to play my PS2, I have to take the cable out of the Xbox. If this sounds like something you're unwilling to do, don't buy this cable. But since my TV only has holes for 2 sets of component cables, I find this to be MUCH easier than having an independent set of cables for each console and constantly removing them all when I decide I want to play Halo followed by Katamari Damacy. Bottom Line: best set of cables for the money. If you have a PS2 and an Xbox but not a lot of component jacks, this is for you.

 "Very Disappointed" 2005-08-25
By A. K. Chang (Reston, VA USA)
Madcatz is usually a pretty reliable brand as far as accessories for video game consoles go, but they've let me down this time. This component cable set appears to be well manufactured, but is a little thin as far as the wire gauge goes and the output to my TV shimmers and wavers constantly. Output is bad for both games and DVDs -- I don't know how anyone can buy these cables and use them. In fact my Intec S-Video cable looks much better and it's constucted of higher gauge wiring. I can't see spending the ridiculously overpriced $50-$80 for "ultra-premium" offerings from Monster Cable or like brands, guess some middle ground has to be found from the high rated Sony or likely more reliable Intec brand.

 "No digital audio" 2008-05-17

"Works perfectly, inexpensive, a little short" 2007-07-09
By E. Smith (Atlanta, GA, USA)
Plan on keeping your 360 somewhat near to your television, this isn't the world's longest cable, but the quality is great, it has component hookups and also works as a regular hook up. This is the least expensive cable I could find on the internet and for the money it is fantastic. Amazon must have sent it right away because I got it within 3 days despite choosing "super saver shipping." I've had it for over a month now and I'm 100% satisfied. Just pay attention to the length and make sure that you don't plan on placing your 360 a long distance away (i.e. outside your entertainment system would probably be too far,) although most people keep their entertainment peripherals in the vicinity of their TV anyway so this shouldn't be a problem for 99% of users.

"This component video cable does NOT provide digital audio!" 2007-01-11
By M. Gross
This component video cable for the Xbox 360 does not provide digital audio. While it does have a hole/slot to plug an optical audio cable into, the slot does not work. I plugged an optical audio cable into the slot, and ran the other end to my digital audio/video receiver. Low and behold, NO digital audio! Do yourself a favor and buy another version of the cable (such as the Microsoft version) if you plan on using digital audio with your Xbox 360. When I used the MS version of the cable the digital audio works great! On a positive note, the component video for this cable does work if that's all you need.

 "NOT AN HDMI CABLE" 2006-04-20
By bob
This is completly mislabled. HDMI is a plug that looks like an oversized USB cable. ONLY NEWER HD SETS even have an HDMI slot. HDMI is a newer form of the Digital DVI cable seen on many PC video cards.

Component HD cables which come with the XBOX 360, even though they produce true HD, are only an ANALOGUE cable.

HDMI is a DIGITAL HD cable.

It's like the difference between a coaxal audio and an optical audio cable. Both can produce true 5.1 surround sound but one is analogue, the other is digital.

As far as I know, there is no HDMI cables on the market for the 360 yet. I found this mislabled product while searching for the release date of the HDMI cable.

"Digital Audio does not work " 2006-02-19
By J. Hatton (Clarksville, TN United States)
I bought these cables right before the Xbox 360 came out. Soon afterwards, I hooked it up and couldn't get the digital audio to work. The receiver noticed it was getting a signal, but apparently the cable was corrupting it. Don't waste the money on these. Spend the money on first party accessories.

"Superior to OVERPRICED Monster cables!!" 2007-10-10
By ChrisB. (Atlanta, GA)
I purchased Monster component cables last year for about $45 w/shipping. They were great until my dog ruined them. I was pretty upset about having to spend another $45 for some overrated cables so I went the cheap route and picked these up. I plugged them into my 40" Samsung HDTV and they performed flawlessly.

I experienced the exact same picture quality and sound as the Monster brand cables. I am an audio/video junkie and I can tell the difference between digital and analog, high-def and standard. These cables perform exactly the same as the premium Monster brand cables at a fraction of the cost. I highly recommend these.

Xbox 360 Monster GameLink Component Video A/V Cable

Product Description

Your xbox 360 can deliver the ultimate high-definition video from your favorite games. And because it is also a high performance DVD player, xbox 360 is a great way to enjoy movies, too. Experiencing true high-definition video means using either preferred Component Video or VGA high-definition connections. Monster GameLink Component Video cable makes 720p or 1080i high definition graphics as detailed and vibrant as possible.

Customer Buzz
The guy from the Netherlands is 100% correct. This is an idiotic design. There's no way that the cable will reach both the tv and a separate tuner; which is at least half the reason for buying it. It's supposed to be video AND audio, duh! Maybe if I stand my tuner on its end behind the tv, it'll reach...Mine's getting returned immediately.

Customer Buzz
I am happy to say that TECHMIA has provided replacement unit and I'm very happy with the GREAT service. And this cable works great. thank you

Customer Buzz
I was a little skeptical about this cable and monster in general. but the cable that microsoft gives you does component or composite which kind of bugged me. this cable is definitely higher quality. the difference in picture quality is noticeable right away. with the first party cable text was a bit blurry, with the monster cable the text looks like it should. you can read a review at team xbox, I would agree with what they said about it. however, I would not pay 50 dollars for this cable. look around and find a good price. I got mine for 20. if you're going to use component I would recommend this cable.

Customer Buzz
i love the detail of HD and these cables work great but for some reason i cant see the whole screen. the left and top are cut its not much but it can be annoying while watching a DVD but for all the games i've played Halo 2,3 gears forza and others it doesnt stop me from playing and from what ive read im not the only one with this problem i have a Mitsubishi 46"

Customer Buzz
What was Monster Cable thinking when they designed this thing? You would presume that a company with a high end audio back ground like Monster understood that their customers most likely would want to connect the stereo output to a separate amplifier and not to the input of a television set. (If you'd want to do that yu would not spend that kind of money on an interconnect.) However, the end of the cable is much to short to connect to any other device but the t.v. As I said, useless.

Customer Buzz
This is a far leap from what came with the Xbox 360, i have always used monster cables products for all my cabling needs. however, i heisated to purchase this because of the cost; but i am glad that i did. The cables are perfect on on my 1080P tv now that microsoft has updated so it is able to put out FULL HD it is sweet.

Customer Buzz
After doing much research online, I decided to purchase these Monster Component Cables for my Xbox 360. I currently have a 32" Samsung LCD HDTV (LN-S3251D) and I had been using the component cables that came with the Xbox 360 for about 4 months. The reviews I read regarding these Monster cables were absolutely correct: these new cables truly provide a sharper HD picture. Colors and textures in games are much brighter and are clearer than ever.

I also use my Xbox 360 as a DVD/HD-DVD player. With the original Microsoft component cables, my DVD movies appeared grainy and washed-out. It was such an awful picture that I would be forced to watch DVDs on my other HDTV with a standalone DVD player. With the addition of these new cables, DVD and HD-DVD movies appear almost life-life on my Xbox 360. For anyone who has purchased (or is planning to purchase) the HD-DVD player add-on, I would highly recommend these Monster cables.

The audio through my HDTV's stereo speakers also seems clearer with less distortion and hollowness.

Overall, these Monster cables would make a great addition to EVERY Xbox 360 user with an HDTV. Highly recommended.

Customer Buzz
The Monster Cables are better than the standard Microsoft Cables, if you want to see more realistic colors and sharper video then you should buy these cables, but I should note that any component cables will not be as good as a digital cable because component cables are analog. But for now there are no Digital cables for the Xbox 360. So this is the best one, unless they make a HDMI or DVI cable for the Xbox 360. If they do then my guess is it won't be for sale until 2007. So, if you can't wait 'till then, then buy the component cables now and enjoy them until the Digital cables come out, then buy the digital cables.

Good:

- Best Image/Color quality
- Long Shielded Cable
- Very sleek look which matches the Xbox360 perfectly

Bad:

- Bit Pricey

If you have a HDTV and demand the absolute best in picture quality then I would definately go for these cables.

Customer Buzz
The HDTV cable that comes with the Xbox 360 has a bad connection in the optical audio connector. The Monsater brand did not have this problem and the audio quality is great - no more static. The video quality is to be expected from Monster - A++.

A must buy and trash the OEM cable...

Xbox 360 Monster GameLink Component Video & Fiber Optic Audio A/V Kit

Product Description

Get top interconnect performance with your xbox 360 Video Game 10 foot length lets you play anywhere without controller extension cables

Customer Buzz
I bought this cable to use ONLY FOR THE OPTICAL AUDIO. I'm using a standard HDMI cable in my 360 for 1080p resolution and needed an Audio Out option which this cable has. Its not a pure optical audio out but a 1/8" stereo mini to optical audio adapter--no problems though the sound is super clean in my 5.1 system. The fit on the 1/8" mini cable is a little loose, especially if you're orienting your 360 vertically--which is recommended for increased cooling. Simply use a tie wrap to bundle all the cables together to reduce the gravity drag and loosening of the cable. So far no problems.

My main concern was whether or not the bulky plug would allow room for my standard HDMI cable adjacent to it (the AV cable which came with my Halo 3 Xbox 360 does NOT allow for simultaneous use of 2 cables side by side). You need to remove one of the gray tabs on the side of this cable in order to make the 2 cables fit side by side (the tab is held on by a cheap adhesive and can be pried off with a simple knife without damaging anything). Once the tab is off both cables can be inserted into your 360. Its a tight fit but it does work.

If you're happy with 720p resolution then simply use the included component video dangle. But if your TV is full HD and your sound receiver doesn't have an HDMI input then this cable is one option for having both 1080p and optical audio together. Hope this helped. Cya online in my sniper scope @ 1080p !!!!

Customer Buzz
This cable is actually worse than the cable that comes with the Xbox 360:

1. It does not have a true digital optical output. All of the photos on Amazon and Monster's website carefully conceal this fact. The cable actually has a standard mini-stereo analogue output jack, so the digital sound out of the Xbox is converted to a cheap analogue connection, and Monster then provides a little adapter that converts this back to a digital optical output. Do you want to convert your CDs to cassette and then back to MP3 files? That's essentially what Monster is doing here, and you don't find that out until you actually open the box and see what's inside. Of course it's cheap for them since they can also sell a standard analogue cable to plug into their output for people who don't have digital inputs on their amplifier, but it's a major ripoff for people who think that they're getting pure digital sound out of their Xbox 360.

2. But it gets worse. The component video connectors are the same as provided for free with the Xbox 360. I own real broadcast quality component cables, so I know what a well-shielded cable looks and feels like. A real, high-quality component cable is as thick as all three of these Monster cables together, and a set of broadcast quality cables of the same length is actually a little bit less expensive than the Monster cable. The Monster cables do not improve the picture compared to the free cables that come with the Xbox 360, and they are almost identical in thickness. The connectors at the end look a little nicer, but the end result is the same on screen. (Unfortunately, I can't find professional cables available with the Xbox 360 plug, so I can't use them with the Xbox 360).

In conclusion, the free cable that comes with the Xbox 360 has the same picture quality (very good, actually) and real optical digital output. These Monster cables have faked optical digital output with no improvement in picture quality. I would be very happy with the free Xbox 360 cables if the optical connection was secure. However, it's a bit loose, so my optical cable tends to fall out. The Monster cable doesn't even have real digital output, however, so it's not an improvement. For now I'll just push the connector back in on the free cables whenever it comes loose. Saves me $60 and keeps the pure digital sound.

Customer Buzz
This is another great product from Monster Cable. It hooks up easily and you will have HD component viewing in no time. Attach the fiber optic cable to the 1/8" connector and the other toslink end to your surround sound system and your set for 5.1 surround audio. The cables are nice and solid and should give you years of use.

Customer Buzz
I am able to find general 50' premium component cables on the internet for less than this. I have this cable and it does function perfectly, but I simply cannot confirm that there is a significant difference in either audio or visual quality. Monster is a premium brand name, you will always pay a premium price for it. If you must have it, I strongly recommend finding this cable from a source cheaper than the $60 listed here. The actual cable that comes with the 360 is great in my opinion.

Customer Buzz
doesnt come with the converter to conect to the jack, thus you cant use the fiber optic cable!!!!!am i the only one that didnt get this or are all the other reviews fake?

Customer Buzz
There is a reason why this Monster Cable product is expensive: quality. Connectors, cabling, and fit/finish are of the highest grade. I highly recommend this product, especially if you have your 360 connected to a home theater system. The difference between the standard audio connections that the 360 comes equipped with and the fiber optic cable is night & day.

I didn't notice a great difference in the video compared to the the standard 360 component connections. The audio connection is why you must have this cable system. Truly mind blowing. My A/V consists of the following: Sony KDE 50XBR 50" plasma and the Sony DAV-10W 5.1.

Customer Buzz
Some people say better cables improve your picture, others say they waste you money. So I took the dive and bought these Monster 360 Cables. After hooking them up I instantly noticed a slight improvement in my 100" picture from my DLP projector. The difference wasn't huge, but the picture was definitely a little sharper. That alone was worth the cost of the cables. Throw in the fact that the Monster cables are much higher quality...they feel better, are thicker, sturdier, and the optical cable doesn't fall out...and this is a no brainer to get. The optical cable of course is the same as any other 'cheap' optical cable in terms of performance, but the quality of the cable itself is higher and looks nicer.

Customer Buzz
On my Hitachi HD Plasma 42 I did notice 10/15 % improvement.
Please Keep on mind that It could be different with another television. But I am really happy with this cable.

Customer Buzz
Where as the High Def cables that come with the $399 package have a High Def + Regular TV switch, this one does not. Even if you have component inputs on your TV, which I do as well, if your TV is not High Def it won't work. I had to return them and use the original cables that I would like to say work perfectly fine. They're thick and display a great image and even have a Optical Audio cable input. The Monster Cable is a great product if you have a High Def TV but as far as I'm concerned it is not an improvement over the original. Jack

Customer Buzz
I upgraded to these so that I could use the optical to connect to my Logitech Z-5500. Since there is plenty of discussion about optical cables not staying plugged in to the Microsoft cables I decided to go for the Monster package.

The picture appears to be a little better and the digital sound is great. However, the optical cable does not fit tightly into the Logitech's control panel. So I am not sure if this is the Monsters fault or Logitech's? If it becomes an ongoing issue I may try another optical for a better fit, but for now the Monster is working so I am happy.

PS - These cables look really cool though :) and shipping is currently free from Amazon! I got them in three days using regular 3-5 super saving shipping.

UPDATED 4/20/06: I am now using the VGA cables!
The reason that I ended up buying the VGA cable was due to the fact that the component signal (both 720p and 1080i) are subject to overscan. This means that the screen "zooms in" slighty so that you are sure to see a complete picture with no black or static edges. This is a problem though with the Xbox 360 because it ends up cropping the image. For example, the HUD in GRAW is cutoff on the corners when using the component cables. This really bothered me so I gave the VGA a try and viola!

I can now go into the dashboard settings and specify 1360 x 768 which closely matches my LCD's native resolution of 1368 x 768. Thus, I am able to see the whole screen without any overscan/cropping. The only downside is that the overall image gets "washed out" when using the VGA cable. However, this is not really a big deal because most of the newer games (GRAW, Oblivion) have an in-game setting for brightness which you can turn down to eliminate the washed out look.

I highly recommend that you at least give the VGA cables a try. Depending on your TV, you may or may not like them. No big deal though because you can just return them. However, you may find that you really like them and will be glad that you tried them out! Check out my VGA vs Component pictures and read about my detailed testing on my personal MSN space. Just go to Google or to the MSN Spaces website and search for "The Sergeant's Space" and you will be able to pull up my site.

Lastly, I have the Samsung LNR238W and there is NO ghosting issues when using the VGA cable.
